Our Work in the South of Morocco

With Mohammed in Marrakesh

Mohammed (far left) always looks forward to our visits, and when we see him we help him with clothing for his family. He makes only a few dirhams a day helping to park cars, which is almost just enough to eat. In the beginning, every time he would see us, he would charge us 5 dirhams (50 cents) to talk to him, so we had to pay him. We thought this was highly amusing, but it actually provided a springboard for us to talk in depth with him about his life and his family, and we have been able to help him now over several visits to Marrakech. One recent visit with Mohammed has enabled us to provide assistance for an urgent eye operation in the Marrakesh hospital.

We buy boxes of Bic biro pens, excercise books, board games
and other supplies for schoolchildren in remote areas of Morocco.
Our work takes us all the way down to Goulimine.
We shall soon be going further - all the way down to Dhakala and Layoune.

Street children in Marrakesh

All donations that are received by us are converted directly into items of need, in Morocco. We do not give money directly to the families that we help. We help out some where we can in the daytime and read and listen to Paul Bowles in the evening. None of the funds that we receive is used for any kind of expenses - it is all used to help families and orphans in need. If we can only make a small dent to relieve the poverty and need that people experience then everything is worthwhile. It's a case of the old question of 'How do you eat an elephant?' - Answer: 'One bite at a time.'

A Street in Marrakesh

Here are some of the six/seven year old children that make metal lamps in Marrakesh
Most of them work twelve or more hours a day, seven days a week and have never been to school
We feed these kids, so their families can benefit from the small money they make
