About the Translator:

©The International Paul Bowles Society
Abdelaziz Jadir is a Professor of Literature in Tangier and
also broadcasts literary reviews on Radio Tangier every
Tuesday night. He was a very close friend and collegue of
Paul Bowles, and was the person that Paul Bowles had a
clear working affinity with. Abdelaziz gave the keynote
address in Arabic at the Paul Bowles Memorial Evening
in Tangier on February 14th, 2000.

Abdelaziz has written several critical reviews on Paul Bowles' works, one of which
in
'The Mirrors on the Maghrib' is an excellent work, and Abdelaziz has also translated several other works into Arabic, including Mrabet's 'The Big Mirror.' He is currently working on another Paul Bowles translation, 'The Eye'.

It has long been debated as to whether or not Paul Bowles was a Moroccan author.
We believe that he was - and the best there is. Do you think that Paul Bowles was a Moroccan author?

About the book:

The book is translated from English into Arabic and comprises a note on the
translation, an interview with Paul Bowles and nine translated stories of Paul
Bowles: 'Dismissal', 'The Successor', 'Bouayed and the Money', 'The Little House',
'Hugh Harper', 'The Husband', 'The Wind at Beni Midar', 'The Empty Amulet' and
'The Friend of the World.' These stories have been previously published in English
in the books 'Collected Stories', 'Unwelcome Words' and 'Midnight Mass.'
