He was a very close friend and collegue of Paul Bowles, and was the person that Paul Bowles had a clear working affinity with. Abdelaziz gave the keynote address in Arabic at the Paul Bowles Memorial Evening in Tangier on February 14th, 2000. Abdelaziz has written several critical reviews on Paul Bowles' works, one of which in 'The Mirrors on the Maghrib' is an excellent work, and Abdelaziz has also translated several other works into Arabic, including Mrabet's 'The Big Mirror.' He is currently working on another Paul Bowles translation, 'The Eye'. It has long been debated as to whether or not Paul Bowles was a Moroccan author. We believe that he was - and the best there is.
